Tuesday, 9/4

  • Apply context clue strategy (Look for setting and place) to determine meaning of unknown words
  • Edit errors of M.U.G.S.
  • practice identifying and applying meanings of prefixes, roots and suffixes as a strategy to define unkbown words.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Bell work: MUG Shot from Friday’s Bonus question
  • Return WW. U1P2 post-test (discuss answer to bonus question/MUG Shot)
  • Take U1P2 pre-test –check answers or collect
    • Students who earn 100% on pretest will be offered alternate assignments to complete in place of workbook pages. Due Thursday still.
  • Complete pages 12-13 independently. Distribute “Word Wisdom—List of Roots, Prefixes and Suffixes” graphic organizer— Complete 5 boxes (prefixes on page 15 and roots on page 14) together.
    • Remind students of context clue strategy for this unit: “Look for the Location or Setting”
  • Take notes on “Short Story Elements (for any short story)” following along with PowerPoint.
HW:
  • Word Wisdom list of roots, prefixes and suffixes handout (complete 5 boxes only) AND pages 13-17 due Thursday.
  • Prepare for Post-test on Friday.
  • Review notes from today (“Short Story Elements”)

Wednesday, 9/5

  • Respond to literal, inferential and critical-thinking questions on a text
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • Finish “Short Story Elements” notes, if needed.
  • Complete and Discuss “Rikki intro vocabulary words” handout--practice identifying and using context clues strategies including parts of speech, looking for prefixes and roots, and looking for location and setting (strategy for WW Unit 1)

  • Independently read page 12 and complete “Rikki-tikki-tavi BEFORE YOU READ” handout
  • Continue working on Word Wisdom roots list and pages 13-15, if needed/if time.
HW:
  • Complete U1P2 list of roots (handout) and pages 13-15 due tomorrow.
  • Prepare for U1P2 Post-test on Friday
  • Review notes (“Short Story Elements [for any short story]” and today’s “Rikki Tikki Elements and author background”)

Thursday, 9/6

  • Use prefixes and root words from U1 P2 to determine meaning of unknown words.
  • Identify personal and third-person pronouns.
  • Distinguish the difference between first-person, third-person limited and third-person omniscient point of view.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW in agenda
  • Bell work: MUG Shot. Make edits for Commas around appositives, Capitalization, Proper end punctuation
  • Check HW: Pages 13-15 in WW book.Correct answers together,
  • Take notes on “Rikki Tikki, story elements and author”, following along with PowerPoint
  • Begin "Rikki Tikki story elements and author" notes

  • Prepare for tomorrow's U1P2 post-test
  • Review notes from this week.

Friday, 9/7

  • Demonstrate knowledge of U1P2 vocabulary words
  • Establish purpose for reading, including to find out, to understand, to interpret, to enjoy and to solve problems.
  • Respond to literal, inferential and critical-thinking questions on a text
Procedures:
  • Copy HW in agenda
  • Bell work: Review for U1P2 Posttest by choosing the correct WW vocab word to complete the sentences on the SMART Board.
  • Take U1P2 Post-test.
  • Continue/Finish "Rikki-tikki-tavi Story Element Notes"

HW:
  • Continue to review/learn/study notes from this week.
